August 29, 2011 Yanmar Co., Ltd. The earthquake and tsunami that struck in early March cut a swathe of destruction through northern Japan, and our thoughts go out to the victims and survivors of this disaster. The farmers of Japanese oysters in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures were also devastated by this tragedy, as the oyster farming industry in the area was all but wiped out. With the loss of mature oyster seed-stock in Miyagi, quickly restoring the oyster beds is a matter of particular concern. Against this backdrop, Yanmar has decided to bring its long accumulated unique skills in on-shore bivalve seedling production to assist in recovery efforts at the affected areas. Through its support of the “Japanese Oyster Aquaculture Recovery Assistance Project”, Yanmar hopes to restore to the peoples of the area access to fresh and safe marine resources, as soon as possible. June 8, 2011 Yanmar Marine System Co., Ltd.
Three months after the devastating earthquake of March 11, Yanmar has reopened a sales and service branch in the city of Sanriku to serve the local small fishing-boat market. Operations previously carried out by four Iwate and Miyagi prefecture branches that were destroyed in the earthquake were provisionally integrated into the Sanriku Office as of June 1, 2011, towards timely business recovery and improved customer support. May 31, 2011 Yanmar Co., Ltd.
Yanmar has announced that it will start using rice cultivated in Fukushima, one of the regions affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, in its office and factory cafeterias. This is part of Yanmar’s determined efforts to support the local communities towards a timely recovery. During the devastating earthquake, a large number of enterprises in the food and agricultural industries suffered severe damage, while the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima plant caused a sense of wariness among consumers at large regarding agricultural produce from the nearby areas. In order to actively contribute to the rehabilitation of local businesses, Yanmar is working in close collaboration with authorities and, from June 1, 2011, will start using rice produced in the said areas in its office and factory cafeterias throughout Japan. We would like to thank each and every member of the Yanmar Group and the Yanmar family worldwide for the continued support of those affected by this tragedy. April 12, 2011 Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this difficult time in Japan. We have the following updates related to our Construction Equipment, Industrial Engine and Marine Engine divisions.
Construction Equipment Division: The Fukuoka factory is operating at 50% capacity through April 15th. Spare parts will be available as usual but please note spare engines manufactured at our Biwa Plant may experience delays. We have no further updates after April 15th but we will keep you abreast as our current conditions change and improve.
Industrial Engine: The Biwa Plant is operating at limited capacity the week of April 11th. No additional information is available after April 18th but Yanmar will continue to update our customers as more information becomes available.
Marine Engine: The Yanmar Japan Marine facility will continue with normal manufacturing through April 15th. No additional updates are available past April 18th. For the Yanmar Marine Engine factory in The Netherlands production will continue as normal through May 20th. No updates are available after this date due to the operating conditions at the Biwa Plant where specific engine parts are sourced.
Orders are still being accepted for all Yanmar products but we are unable to give a firm delivery date at this time.
As soon as Yanmar America receives additional information, we will update our OEM’s, Distributors, and Dealers. Thank you again for your patience during this difficult time. March 15, 2011 Yanmar Co., Ltd. Everyone at Yanmar would like to express our deepest concern and sympathy for the families affected by the massive earthquake and tsunami unfolding since March 11, 2011. As 34 of our sales and distribution sites around Japan have been damaged, we ask our esteemed partners for patience and understanding regarding possible delays, at the same time assuring you that sustained efforts are being made to restore business conditions back to normal in a timely manner. In order to provide relief to the disaster victims, we have thus far contributed 100 million yen, including monetary donations, construction equipment and power generators, to the damaged areas.
